Fantabulosa –The Diaries Of Kenneth Williams

Μύ

Michael Sheen stars as Kenneth Williams, a consummate entertainer who was loved by everyone – with the exception of himself.

Μύ

He was best known for his 22 appearances in the Carry On… films, but he also appeared in a myriad of TV, radio and stage shows.

Μύ

From the intimacy of his diaries and other sources, Fantabulosa creates a portrait of a fastidious performer who hankered after recognition, adulation and companionship throughout his career; yet although he could create a thousand voices and characters, he would never be comfortable living in his own skin.

Μύ

Fantabulosa is written by Martyn Hesford and produced by Ben Evans, with Richard Fell and Sally Woodward as executive producers.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ FOUR Winter/Spring 2006 The Chatterley Affair

Μύ

The Chatterley Affair

Μύ

After publishing the first unexpurgated edition of D H Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover in Britain, Penguin Books was prosecuted for obscenity.

Μύ

In October 1960, at the Old Bailey in London, a jury of nine men and three women were sworn in for the most famous and sensational obscenity prosecution ever to take place.

Μύ

It could be argued that the outcome changed England forever, ushering in what we now think of as 'The Sixties', with everything that the phrase implies.

Μύ

All the details of the trial are on record – except for what the jury said, thought… and did.

Μύ

Andrew Davies' major new drama for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ FOUR, The Chatterley Affair, asks viewers to imagine the situation where two of the jurors fall in love under the influence of Lawrence's prose.

Μύ

Before the trial could begin, the jury were ordered to read the book together, but silently, in the jury room.

Μύ

As they read the passionate descriptions of Constance Chatterley's affair with Mellors, her husband's gamekeeper, an affair develops between two of the jurors, which is intercut with key moments in the court case and novel, archive material, and 'documentary' interviews with the two jurors, 45 years on. Their relationship becomes both a celebration and a critique of the novel.

Μύ

Andrew Davies has created a compelling and highly original drama. He has dramatised a seminal moment in history, and offers a challenging, oblique adaptation of a classic novel. He also tells a touching love story.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ FOUR Winter/Spring 2006 A For Andromeda

Μύ

A For Andromeda

Μύ

A strange radio signal from the Andromeda constellation provides instructions to build a supercomputer, which rapidly amasses a wealth of information about life on Earth and becomes dangerously powerful.

Μύ

John Fleming, a brilliant scientist, is both intoxicated and repelled by the icily beautiful humanoid computer that is created.

Μύ

In this contemporary adaptation by Richard Fell (Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ) of Fred Hoyle and John Elliot's 1961 sci-fi classic about an alien threat to humanity, the themes of artificial intelligence, genetic cloning and the political exploitation of science remain as relevant as they were when this cult series became a huge television hit.
