CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Winter 2005
An all-star cast for Kidnapped

CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ & CBeebies - Winter highlights 2005

CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ

Serious Arctic

Following the success of the RTS award-winning Serious Jungle and the 2004 Bafta award-winning series Serious Desert, CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ presents Serious Arctic, a new six part documentary series that promises to be the most challenging Serious expedition to date.

Serious Arctic follows eight intrepid teenage volunteers as they spend three weeks in the Canadian High Arctic where their mission is to help scientists by collecting crucial data linked to global warming.

They will measure - for the first time - one of Canada's most southerly glaciers - the Grinnell glacier - and help the endangered polar bear.

Four girls and four boys were selected from nearly 10,000 eager volunteers.

Serious Arctic follows their adventures as they get the chance to experience this once in a life time opportunity.

Their tough journey sees the keen youngsters tolerating the most basic and harsh conditions including travelling over 100 miles by dog sled and surviving temperatures of 50 degrees below zero with wind storms of up to 70 miles per hour.

Blue Peter

It's a busy winter on Blue Peter as new addition to the team Zoe Salmon is thrown in at the deep end with some daring assignments.

Go behind the scenes on her first day in the Blue Peter studio, and join her on one of her first challenges - to become a primary school teacher.

She also joins the team for a New Year Nightmares Special, as they all undergo tough winter survival tests.

Matt Baker visits Cambodia, as well as going to the United States for a series of special reports on top American sports.

As part of the Blue Peter Welcome Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Appeal, Konnie Huq returns to Angola to see how money raised is already helping to reunite families separated by the years of conflict in the region.

Blue Peter gets interactive in two special programmes in February, and as part of Comic Relief in March Konnie goes to Uganda to report for the programme.

Newsround - Islam Week Newsround - Islam Week

Newsround - Islam Week

Join the Newsround team for a special week of programmes looking at what life is like for young Muslims here in the UK and around the world.

Muslims have found themselves in the headlines regularly since the events of September 11 2001, and many feel they are portrayed unfairly.

How much do children generally understand about the Muslim faith?

The week will start with a Newsround Extra, which will feature the findings of research commissioned by the Newsround team to discover children's attitudes towards Muslims in the UK - thought to be the first national survey amongst British Muslim children.

The programme will also feature press pack reports from children, will look at stories such as the growth of Islamic hip hop and hear from young people in the Arab world about what they think of the UK and the United States.

Kidnapped

CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ brings an all-star cast to the screen next year with an adaptation of Kidnapped, Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale.

Iain Glen stars as Alan Breck and James Pearson as Davie Balfour in Stevenson's tale of treachery, romance and rebellion, along with Paul McGann as Colonel McNabb, Adrian Dunbar as Uncle Ebenezer, Gregor Fisher as James of the Glens and Kirsten Smith as Catriona.

Kidnapped chronicles the adventures of Breck and Balfour as they escape murder and shipwreck on a quest for justice, all set against the fierce social and political backdrop of 1760s Scotland.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is working with South Pacific Productions (makers of the Oscar nominated film Whale Rider) on location in New Zealand.

The Crust

Set in London's shabbiest and busiest pizza take-away, The Crust is a brand new comedy series for CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.

It stars CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Reggie Yates (Smile) and DJ Devstar (Smile) joined by characters Angel, Gran'ma, Tom and the Crust Crew.

Gran'ma, who owns The Crust and lives in the tower block below it, employs her two teenage grandchildren, Archie (Reggie Yates) and Angel, to run the business, with Archie making the pizzas and Angel serving customers.

Archie's oldest and best mate, Ellis (Devin Griffin), is the take-away delivery boy.

With these three in charge, things regularly get out of hand.

A Darrall MacQueen Production for CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.
