Spring & Summer highlights 2004

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ FOUR teams up with Tate Britain for a summer in the Sixties

This summer Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ FOUR mounts its biggest and most ambitious season to date as the channel takes a mind-expanding trip around the culture Β– and counterculture Β– of the 1960s.

Μύ

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ FOUR Controller Roly Keating says:"Summer in the Sixties is all about looking at where we are today through the prism of that most creative, turbulent and influential of decades.

Μύ

"At its centre is a ground-breaking collaboration with Tate Britain: Art and the 60s is a new TV series and exhibition about the people who were outraging conventional taste 20 years before the BritArt generation.

Μύ

"It's not just about the big names like David Hockney and Bridget Riley. We'll be unearthing forgotten figures and stories and showing how today's cutting-edge art is directly descended from that revolutionary era.

Μύ

"In true Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ FOUR style the Summer in the Sixties season will mix documentary, music, cinema, archive and discussion to both celebrate the era and debunk some of its cherished myths.

Μύ

"In Round the Horne... Revisited one of the great Sixties comedy series comes to TV for the first time in our exclusive version of the hit stage show.

Μύ

"The Truth About Sixties TV will directly challenge the notion of the 1960s as the golden age of television.

Μύ

"And in I Hate the Sixties we'll be giving free rein to those who sincerely believe the Sixties are the root of most of today's social problems.

Μύ

"Elsewhere this summer Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ FOUR will premiere another raft of exceptional documentaries, from a very personal and moving examination of the search for a cure for malaria in Malaria Mission, to the rise and fall of John DeLorean and his 'wonder cars', to the most exclusive access ever to the secretive world of the Saudi Arabian royal family in The House of Saud.

Μύ

"Musically this summer is our strongest ever, kicking off with a true landmark event: The Blues, an extraordinary new documentary series including films by Martin Scorsese, Mike Figgis and Clint Eastwood.

Μύ

"And Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ FOUR will partner Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ TWO in presenting a celebration of opera, which includes new productions including the world premiere of AlbΓ©nizΒ’s lost opera, Merlin, and a remarkable documentary, I Want to be Pavarotti, about a singing teacher who spots potential just by hearing children shout across the playground."
