The Beatles - Welcome to the most famous pebble-dash semi of all time!

A postcard from John Lennon's boyhood home

For Yoko Ono's advisor, Shelagh Johnson, the power of John Lennon's boyhood home is comparable with that of the Tower of London and Warwick Castle.

But is everyone else suitably convinced that this pebble-dash semi sits comfortably alongside the other architectural wonders that the Trust protects?

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ FOUR explores how the Trust handles brushes with celebrity and captures the Trust at a key point during its drive into modernity, as it considers what properties should be conserved for the nation – and how.

Follow the National Trust team, headed by Julian Gibbs, as they tackle the out-of-the-ordinary task of restoring this modest semi, stripped bare of all Lennon memorabilia, apart from an aquamarine bath suite.

After acquiring the house that Lennon lived in for 16 years and donating it to the Trust, Yoko Ono and her army of advisors follow its every move.

This is the inside story of the Trust's makeover of Lennon's house. As the clock ticks rapidly away at the Trust's grooviest visitor attraction, will the pink bed-spread for John's room be deemed suitably rock and roll? Will Yoko ever give the Trust the final seal of approval?
