Peter Mitchell

My name is Peter Mitchell, born Ashford, Middlesex in 1978. At the age of 16 I came to live in N. Ireland, Currently residing in Belfast. I write poems whenever inspiration hits me although in truth it seems they write themselves. I love to write when I can. I enjoy the poems of Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon, Robert Browning and Seamus Heaney. I also find the lyrics of the Arctic monkeys and Reverend and the Makers amongst others help to ignite my passion for writing.

Palestine by Peter Mitchell

Palestine pummeled
by Israeli guns
After the bloodshed
of Israeli sons.
An eye for an eye
a tooth for a tooth
as innocent lives-
get lost in the truth...

The truth that they write,
is split on both sides.
no one wins with war,
and once we divide
we split and we fail,
to show true respect
where once love had lived
there now lives neglect...

neglect for our brothers,
all in the same boat
shut out of stone castles,
surrounded by moats.
opposed by brute force
hate breeds mistrust.
innocents lost
from reactions unjust...

Who should we pray for?
And what can we do?
For military might-
overshadows what's true.
For who wishes death?
And what can they say?
About the people they've murdered
On a blood drenched sad day...

They keep marching on
Headless they plod
Fighting fire with hate
And the love for their god
Is their god so different
And so sanctions hate
In their promised land
The Israeli state...

Should we accept,
There's them and there's us?
Should we let them murder,
And not make a fuss?
As a big boy once pushed them
to the back of the bus
So they learned from him
And now ignore us...

I can't hold it down
And so must release
These feelings I feel
As I wish for peace.
No one deserves murder
Someones' son died today.
Some mothers boy
was taken away...
