I am 23, live in Banbridge and have been writing since I was 15 - anything from poetry, to stories, to scripts, to shopping lists. My influences as a poet are primarily the Beat poets, as well as Ted Hughes, Robert Frost and Sylvia Plath. I'm working to live and live at the weekends.

Pretend to be a Thief

Keep the curtains and the window open.
Let some robber sneak in and, whisk
Your heart away. (Maybe someday…)
So, if you feel a touch spontaneous,
Let me pretend to be a thief,
Take what I need. (Keep what I steal…)
Buried your secrets,
Where they would never be found.
If you can’t be Queen,
I’ll simply swipe you the crown.
Making excuses to call at your door.
You invite me in and, I
Want to say, (Let me stay…).
Feeling sleepy in your light blue nightgown.
Saturday night, your six-day week
Is all over. (Take my shoulder...)
Rest your head on me,
Let your hand slip into mine.
If I can’t be King,
Then to be here, is just fine.
