A Boat in Blue by Alex Pryce

The wind teases at sails
To push and pull a boat in blue.

“Sea gulls and salt water –
It was a sailor's life for me.
Left home 16, ripe
To join the Royal Navy.â€

The wind tugs at sails
To push and pull a boat in blue.

“All the men were like me,
That signed up on 10 th May's high tide.
They shouted their dreams to a westerly wind,
And spat their pasts to the sea.â€

The wind tears at sails
To push and pull a boat in blue.

“Like me, their dreams became tangled in canvas,
Sank ships, or were lost at sea.â€

The right wind is no wind
When a man fights in blue between land and land.
When a man doesn't know what harbour he is making for
No wind is the right wind.
