Moving to Norfolk

Moving to a new place can be an exciting but daunting experience and ultimately one that leaves its mark both on your memory and life history.

Kwai Li, who set up the West Norfolk And District Chinese Association, moved to King's Lynn in 1978.

He moved with his family from Hong Kong to Birmingham in 1969 when he was 12, but left the Midlands around a decade later to help his family run a restaurant in the west Norfolk town.

Settling in Norfolk meant being without the support of a large Chinese community and having to find a new set of friends, which took Kwai Li several years.

Although he only intended to live in King's Lynn a short while, he has now lived in the town for 30 years and raised his family there.

The ghost of Anne Boleyn

An apparition of Anne Boleyn, who met a grisly end at the hands of her husband King Henry VIII, is said to appear at Blickling Hall, where her childhood home once stood, every year on the anniversary of her death.

The mother of Queen Elizabeth I was beheaded on 19 May 1536, just a few days before her husband wed his third wife Jane Seymour.

Anne Boleyn was brought up in a manor situated on the site of Blickling Hall, an imposing Jacobean mansion on the edge of Aylsham in north Norfolk.

It seems that her Norfolk childhood left an impact as her ghost is said to arrive at the door of the National Trust-owned stately home in a carriage pulled by headless horses and driven by a headless coachman on each anniversary of her execution.
