Fortnite's new season has broken its all-time one-day player records, it said.

'Season OG' launched on Friday 3 November, and got a lot of fans excited, as it features classic map locations and skins from Fortnite's Chapter 1 Season 5 back in 2018.

Makers Epic Games revealed the new season had been played by more people in a single weekend than in the history of the game - despite some people struggling to log in or getting stuck in queues.

"We're blown away by the response to #FortniteOG.

"Yesterday was the biggest day in Fortnite's history with over 44.7 MILLION players jumping in and 102 MILLION hours of play. To all Fortnite players, OG and new, THANK YOU!" they wrote on their social media.

Epic Games has not revealed when this season will end, however it says new updates will come out on 9 November, 16 November and 23 November featuring different seasons from the game's history.

Between 3-8 November the game will feature items and map locations from Chapter 1 Season 5.

From 9-15 November the next update will feature items from Chapter 1 Season 6 including the Driftboard and Quadcrasher.

On 16-22 November the next patch will include the chilly Chapter 1 Season 7 and 8, featuring the snowy biome, X-4 Stormwing, and the introduction of pirates arrrrrr!

From 23 November onwards the next update will introduce features and items from Chapter 1 Seasons 9 and X, including the Baller, Jetpacks and the Storm Flip.

Epic Games said it was monitoring Fortnite's servers, as the big rush of people trying to play the game at the same time was causing them to slow down. It also warned players there might be queues and delays before joining a match for this reason.

Despite the success of its latest update, Epic Games recently announced it was cutting around 16% of its workforce - that's about 870 jobs.

The boss Tim Sweeney recently shared the company had been "spending more than it earned".

Epic Games has not yet revealed what will happen when this season ends.
