Thousands of Syrian refugees have been walking for days to escape the violence that's tearing apart the city of Homs.

There are reports coming from there that the Syrian army is killing and torturing innocent people.

Many are escaping to the neighbouring countries of Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan; but the journey is dangerous with Syrian forces attacking the route.

The Syrian government is still stopping any aid getting into Homs, saying it's worried about security.

The United Nations believes that since the fighting started in Syria, 70,000 people have had to leave their homes.

Conditions are very difficult for the refugees - it's become bitterly cold in the region and they're having to shelter in houses without electricity or heating.

No-one knows when the violence will end, and many more Syrian people may have to flee their country and their homes.
