Various tributes have been made to Amy Winehouse at this year's MTV video music awards (VMAs) in Los Angeles.

Her friend Russell Brand led the eulogies, asking people to remember her for her music and urging those suffering from addiction to get help.

Bruno Mars covered one of the star's hits, Valerie, while 85-year-old singer Tony Bennett showed a clip of his duet with her, Body And Soul.

Amy Winehouse was found dead at her home in north London in July aged 27.

She had a well-publicised struggle with drink and drugs.

Toxicology results have shown that no illegal substances were present in Amy Winehouse's system at the time of her death.

An inquest into her death is due to be held in October.

Speaking in front of a celebrity-packed audience at LA's Nokia Theatre, comedian and actor Russell Brand led the tributes to the singer.

He said: "A lot of people just get the disease, not many people get the incredible talent that Amy was blessed with.

"Let's remember there is a solution. That solution is available."

Tony Bennett showed the audience a clip of the duet Body And Soul he recorded with Amy Winehouse before she died.

The single and video featuring the pair will be released on 14 September, which would have been the singer's 28th birthday.

American singer/songwriter Bruno Mars covered Valerie, before finishing with the line "Amy, we'll miss you baby".

Elsewhere at the MTV VMAs, Beyonce revealed she was pregnant with her first child.

Before the event the former Destiny's Child singer posed cradling her stomach in an orange gown.

Then during the performance of her latest single Love On Top Beyonce told the audience: "I want you to feel the love that's growing inside me."

She finished the song by opening her jacket and rubbing her baby bump, with husband Jay-Z being congratulated by fellow celebrities around him in the audience.

The rapper then performed Otis with Kanye West off their chart-topping joint album Watch the Throne.

Adele picked up three trophies for her Rolling In The Deep video.

Russell Brand's wife Katy Perry was the winner of the night's top prize, video of the year, for her single Firework.

Collecting the award on stage, she said: "I feel like I'm doing something right when I sing that song."

The singer walked away with three gongs in total.

Lady Gaga, who won two awards, dressed as her male alter ego Jo Calderone for the event.
