The bathing pool at Harve des Pas in Jersey has been declared safe to swim in again, after water containing sewage from the pumping station at the Dicq flowed into the sea on Tuesday.

The Environmental Health department had advised swimmers to refrain from using it as a "precautionary" measure.

The overflowing was caused by heavy rain and the "very diluted" water was allowed to flow into the sea.

The discharge of excess water into the sea is a "safety feature" designed to protect properties from being flooded with sewage, according to a spokesperson for the department.

A yachtsman was rescued after being knocked unconscious when he was hit by his yacht's boom, the RNLI has said.

The St Helier inshore lifeboat was paged at about 13:00 on Monday.

The yacht had drifted into a rocky area north of the Demie de Pas lighthouse where it was seen by a fishing boat - which decided to investigate.

On arrival, the yachtsman was "semi-conscious and barely coherent", the RNLI added.

He was treated on the yacht before being taken to St Helier harbour where an ambulance crew was waiting.
