鶹Լ News OnlineChannel Islands based airline Blue Islands has started a new daily service to London Southend airport.
The route is the first of three new services that the airline will operate in the islands, with flights to Liverpool taking off from Tuesday and Cornwall expected to begin on 3 June.
CEO of Blue Islands Rob Veron said: “As a local business, Blue Islands recognises islanders want the lowest possible fares to London", stating that he was "confident the convenience London Southend provides will overcome islanders’ reliance on Gatwick”.

鶹Լ News OnlineGuernsey Water has announced that Le Grand Bouet will close for a month later in the year in order to carry out essential works to restore the island's largest sewer.
Investigations from earlier in the year concluded that the sewer was in "poor condition".
The closure has been deemed necessary to carry out the work and prevent the need for a full replacement, which could cost millions of pounds and result in far longer disruption to the road.

鶹Լ News OnlineTwo Jersey fishermen have been £300 each at the magistrates' court for catching more ormers than is legally allowed.
They were caught with 28 ormers over the limit of 20 per day, per person.
A Fisheries patrol boat caught them during a check off the Minquiers on 21 March.
Strict rules are in place so the local seafood delicacy are protected from over-fishing.
The boat's owner and skipper were also fined £200, and a crew member £100.

鶹Լ News OnlineJersey will adopt a system of assumed consent from July for all adults to donate their organs after death.
Those who do not wish to donate their organs will have to contact the National Organ Donation Register and opt out.
In the lead up to the change, the government has announced its intention to run a campaign to raise awareness and encourage residents to speak with their families about their wishes.
Passed by the island's government in April 2018, Health Minister Deputy Richard Renouf said the purpose of the law was to "make it easier for deceased islanders to donate their organs and potentially save more lives".
“However, there is also a recognition that not everyone wants to donate their organs and they must have the opportunity to opt out if they wish," he added.

鶹Լ Radio GuernseyTelecoms company Sure will not have to make any changes to its pricing practices despite new rules introduced by Ofcom, bosses say.
The UK's communications watchdog is clamping down on UK providers enticing customers with highly discounted initial prices before making dramatic increases at the end of the minimum contract term.
Alistair Beak, chief marketing officer at Sure, said the company did not take that approach with pricing, and its customers continued to pay the same price at the end of their minimum contract term.

鶹Լ News OnlineLong-time Guernsey lifeboat operations manager Captain Peter Gill has retired after 14 years in the role.
St Peter Port RNLI Chairman Jim Le Pelley expressed his gratitude for the "unwavering support" that Mr Gill had offered to those involved in hundreds of incidents he has overseen.
The change was announced at the St Peter Port Lifeboat Station AGM on Thursday, where it was also confirmed that Chris Harvey is taking over the role.
A volunteer between 2011 and 2016, Mr Harvey also served as a coastguard in New Zealand for two years.
Mr Harvey also thanked Mr Gill for his service, stating that he was "delighted" to be involved again with St Peter Port Lifeboat Station.
"It’s a great team and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into the role,” he added.

鶹Լ Radio GuernseySix local primary schools are joining a national Walk to School Week, which starts today.
The campaign aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality around schools and promote active lifestyles.
The local schools taking part are Forest Primary, Hautes Capelles, La Houguette, La Mare De Carteret, St Martin Primary and Vauvert.

鶹Լ Radio GuernseyGuernsey's Health Committee says it will not be reviewing its policy on screening pregnant women for (GBS) after the tests were scrapped last year.
It now focuses only on those who have previously tested positive for the condition.
About one in five pregnant women carry group-B streptococcus. If the condition is undiagnosed, there is a chance it could be passed on to their baby.
Most will fully recover with treatment but GBS can lead to pneumonia, meningitis and the blood infection sepsis. It can also can be especially dangerous to babies who are born prematurely.
There have been calls for screening to be reintroduced in Guernsey after it was scrapped, and last week UK health bosses said screening for bacterial infection of babies was to be offered in a trial with 80 hospitals in England, Wales and Scotland.
The committee said it would be years before results from the trial was known, and only then would it be reviewed locally.

鶹Լ Radio GuernseyMajor improvements have been proposed for La Vallette in St Peter Port, as part of the States of Guernsey's Seafront Enhancement Area Programme.
The not-for-profit group 'Vive La Vallette' submitted a proposal which was chosen by the programme to redevelop the kiosk, regenerate the bathing pools facilities and create a mixed-use performance space.
The group wants to make enhancements to the natural beauty and biodiversity for the area.

鶹Լ Radio JerseyMore than 1,200 people in Jersey have signed a petition calling for an allocated beach where dogs can be off the lead at all times of the year.
By law, dogs on on beaches between have to be on a lead between 10:30 and 18:00 from May to September.
Ministers are yet to respond to the petition.
