  1. NHS condemns 'fake poster'

    A fake poster on social media warning the NHS faces privatisation, which bears the official NHS logo, has been condemned by officials.

    The image, featuring a man with a stethoscope around his neck and an official NHS contact number, encourages people to buy health insurance, warning that "from January 2018, the NHS will no longer be a free service".

    It sports the official logos of the NHS and Public Health England.

    NHS England said "we treat misuse of the NHS logo extremely seriously and we are investigating the origin of this clearly fake poster".

    The image was re-posted by Labour Future, a group which has launched an online campaign to "save the NHS".

    NHS England said that it had approached Labour Future - which is believed to have no official links to the Labour Party - to ask it to remove the image from their social media profile which they immediately did.

    Brexit proved a hot topic at last night's in Newcastle-under-Lyme between the three candidates standing in the poll.

    All of them were asked how they thought the issue would affect the area:

    • Nigel Jones for the Liberal Democrats said the area would hit by the loss of trade and new tariffs, affecting jobs and the economy
    • Owen Meredith for the Conservatives said he would use feedback from local businesses to influence Brexit negotiations to help Newcastle-under-Lyme
    • Labour's Paul Farrelly said what was needed was a strong Parliament to hold the prime minister to account to get the best deal out of Europe
