Health Secretary Wes Streeting faced questions from Laura Kuenssberg this morning as she grilled him on NHS appointments, social care and weight loss jabs.

Here are five key takeaways from the health secretary:

    • Wes Streeting says he's boosting the number of NHS appointments, but he doesn't have exact data
    • Laura pressed Streeting for a timeline of when the NHS will be fixed, but he insists he won't pre-empt the Budget - which is due at the end of the month
    • Streeting says weight loss jabs will not become a "dystopian future" and they are not the only solution to obesityin the UK
    • Streeting says the NHS can't be fixed without addressing social care, as he outlined his 10-year-plan
    • On Sir Chris Hoy's announcement that his cancer is terminal, Streeting says the "whole nation" would be "cheering him on"

As we heard earlier, Health Secretary Wes Streeting says weight loss jabs are not the only solution to obesity in the UK and he doesn't want to create a "dependency culture".

Addressing reaction to what he has said on weight loss jabs, he adds that he "is not interested in some dystopian future where I involuntarily jab unemployed people who are overweight".

He says the jabs could be game-changing and if the government can "throw the trends we're seeing in obesity into reverse that's better for the health of the nation".

He adds that the weight-loss jabs are "not a substitute to good changes to diet, nutrition and exercise".

  4. Andrei Kelin questions need for Salisbury poisonings inquiry - Kuenssbergpublished at 09:44 British Summer Time

Andrei Kelin, Russian ambassador to the UK

Also on the programme with Laura Kuenssberg this week is Andrei Kelin, the Russian ambassador to the UK, in part of a wide-ranging sit-down interview.

In this piece from Laura Kuenssberg, she speaks about the family of Dawn Sturgess, who died six years ago after coming into contact with Novichok, and their call for Vladimir Putin to speak to the inquiry after her death in the Salisbury poisoning.

Andrei Kelin has questioned the need for an inquiry. “Why drag this history so long?”

He also rejected suggestions Petrov or Borishov should attend, saying the men had already given answers on TV.

As the Salisbury inquiry delves into the impact of the poisoning on one innocent British family, its significance as a moment of the rupture in relations is clear too, Laura writes.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting said he is "in awe" of Sir Chris Hoy's courage, positivity and "wonderful message of hope", after the six-time Olympic cycling champion announced that his cancer is terminal.

He adds that the "whole nation" would be "cheering him on now" and sending love.

”I think he's done the country such an enormous service by being as open and as positive as he has been", Streeting adds.

The 48-year-old Scot, Hoy, revealed earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with cancer. He had not previously disclosed the type of cancer.
