This year's Ross International Festival are planning a range of fun events especially for children, ranging from story telling to drama to workshops.

The plan is to involve the whole family and even come home with a handmade work of art - one way to beat those school holiday blues.

There are plenty of events in the programme ideal for family outings which will entertain and stimulate younger individuals as well as their parents.

Many of the events are free events such as the spectacular Opening Parade, lots of hilarious street theatre taking place throughout the town, and the Grand Finale BBQ with fireworks and the dramatic burning ceremony of the festival sculpture.

There will also be plenty of activities to keep everyone amused down at the Waterside Site, such as Les festijeux, offering a variety of French games all there to be played free of charge.

The Chaplin family

Some of the family events on offer include L’Oratorio d’Aurelia- directed by Victoria Thierree Chaplin, daughter of the great Charlie Chaplin, and starring Aurelia Thierree, Chaplin’s grand-daughter.

This is a unique UK premiere telling the story of Aurélia's world where nothing is what it seems.

Sousa Fun will provide great musical entertainment in which the performers make music from the most outlandish objects, such as vegetables and pieces of rubber pipe!

Family classics

Some favourite classic stories will be staged, including Moby Dick - Herman Melville’s epic adventure retold with a musical twist.

The company uses just the mast of a ship, a double-bass and a cello.

The classic tale Pinocchio is also being staged, created through fantastical illusions using nothing more than tools from a carpenter's workshop, live music and a puppet carved on stage.

Workshops

There will be a variety of workshops for children, such as puppet making, wooden and ceramic fish carving and painting.

For those more interested in music and dance - a great opportunity to learn all about rap/DJ-ing, and a dance masterclass with the Camut Band from Barcelona who are performing live at the Waterside on Friday 15th August.

The workshops have very limited availability, so it is advisable to book early.
