It might have been a dull and wet weekend but there was certainly a ray of sunshine around Tewkesbury on Saturday for the return of our Olympic Hero – Zac Purchase.  The 22 year old rower was given an open-top bus parade through the town centre accompanied by all his family and friends. Zac won Britain's first ever gold in the lightweight men's double sculls with his partner Mark Hunter. Since returning to Britain from Beijing Zac's had an extremely busy social calendar of interviews and receptions with the public's interest in the talented saxophonist – who used to busk in Tewkesbury town centre to help pay for his training – reaching unprecedented heights.  Zac's Olympic medal Lined the streetsOn Saturday it was the turn of his old town to welcome him back and applaud his success out in China. Thousands of people, including many school children waving union flags, lined the streets of Tewkesbury or stopped what they were doing in largely wet and overcast conditions, to wave him by and shout their encouragement.  Tewkesbury's town crier Mike Kean-Price announced the start of the parade before the open-top bus made its way along the High Street and Church Street before ending up at a civic reception at the Borough Council's offices off Gloucester Road.
