Summer bedding
There are so many different cultivars that you’ll never be short of a dizzying display, and the whole point is to get a blaze of colour. One of the more recent trends has been for trailing plants that have cascades of flowers. Especially lovely in hanging baskets are Surfinia petunias and continental pelargoniums.
Summer perennialsSummer-flowering perennials
Look around the garden in summer and you’ll see perennials flowering their hearts out, whether in the shade of the bog garden, the pond, or beds and borders. This is also the time to look at your planting schemes and see where you can make improvements, and of course to admire your creative skills!
Rambling roseRoses
Formal rose gardens and rose beds are out of fashion, but 90 per cent of gardeners still grow roses. Nowadays, they are often grown as part of a larger composition, or as a hedge. Particularly popular are shrub roses, and the big development in the past few years has been the patio roses, which are compact growers and perfect for pots.
