With three films out this year you seem to be on a roll...
Yes, definitely. I've always heard about the ups and downs of the movie business and I went through a period where I wasn't getting the type of films that I would have liked to have done or that I wished were offered to me. Then, all of a sudden, out of the blue, these offers came along. It was a matter of knowing Ted Demme who wanted me for "Blow" and with "Hannibal" I walked up to Ridley Scott in the gym! "Heartbreakers " I had to audition for.
How did that work out?
The director was sure he wanted me because he had seen my performance in "Something Wild", but I had to go in and read for it in front of the producers and casting agent. The amazing thing is no matter how much you've done, you can still be insecure. When I left, I was like "Did they like me? Did I get it?". It was like my first audition all over again. It was humbling, but it keeps you on your toes which I don't mind. The relief was that I didn't have to wake up and beat somebody up on set every day. This was more fun.
You featured in one of the year's most infamous scenes in "Hannibal". Was that weird to watch?
Totally! They built a $70,000 likeness of me. I was with Julianne off camera, and there was Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal and sitting at the table was me! It was like looking at a mirror. Everyone came on set that day to watch. Some were gagging, some looked away, some people's eyes were bigger than their heads. It was the most bizarre thing.
