Why did you decide to return to the "Jurassic Park" franchise?
I wasn't in the second one, because I wasn't in the book, so I didn't have to worry about that. But at the same time, I've actually come back and done another character again. In a sense, I was quite happy to do that because I wasn't quite happy with what I'd done with the character in the first film. I was so over-awed by Spielberg; I think I didn't quite look after my guy as well as I might have. This time, it was quite good to have another go at a character. You're never quite one hundred per cent sure whether you've done as well as you might have.
Reviews weren't too kind to the humans in "Jurassic Park"
That's true. I was rather stung by a New Yorker review. It said "The first film in history where the Special Effects are more real than the actors." Hopefully we got it right this time.
How was it being directed by Joe Johnston, and not Steven Spielberg?
I think that was a good call, to have someone with a fresh pair of eyes and with the enthusiasm and the sheer sense of mischief that Joe has.
