The Great Escape tells the – mostly – true story of a group of Second World War POWs intent on breaking out of a top-security camp by any means possible.
Featuring a stellar cast and countless iconic moments, including Steve McQueen's attempt to jump a fence on a motorbike, John Sturges' classic 1963 film also has one of the most famous and instantly-recognisable themes in all movies.
The score, written by Elmer Bernstein, is a masterclass in film music writing. Tonight's performance will be conducted by the composer's son, Peter Bernstein, and played by the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Concert Orchestra in synchronisation with the film screened in high definition.
