Concert Information
An old man stands at the window, and looks out on falling snow. That haunting image was the imaginative starting point for 'un despertar', the beautiful new cello concerto by the Â鶹ԼÅÄ SSO’s Artist-in-Association, Matthias Pintscher, and it’s taken from a poem by Octavio Paz. But its theme – of remembrance – is universal, just as the graceful Baroque-inspired dances of Ravel’s 'Le tombeau de Couperin' celebrate the lives (rather than the tragically early deaths) of friends lost in the Great War. Bruno Delepelaire, First Principal Cello of the Berlin Philharmonic, is the soloist, and Pintscher himself conducts the UK Premiere – before crowning the concert with the majesty, mystery and irrepressibly human warmth of Mozart’s 'Symphony No.39'.
Prelude: 6.45pm in the Recital Room
Matthias Pintscher introduces 'un despertar' in conversation with Â鶹ԼÅÄ SSO violinist Alex Gascoine (free to ticket-holders, subject to seating availability).
The concert will be recorded for future broadcast on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3.
