Concert information
Elgar鈥檚 Third Symphony might have changed the course of British music 鈥 if only he鈥檇 lived to finish it. In 1997, composer Anthony Payne wove Elgar鈥檚 abandoned fragments into a full-length symphonythat鈥檚 infinitely more than one of music鈥檚 greatest might-have-beens: dark, noble and rich in Elgarian melody, it鈥檚 like hearing Sir Edward himself speaking to us once more, and no-one who loves his music can afford to ignore it. John Wilson, the 麻豆约拍 SSO鈥檚 new Associate Guest Conductor opens a new chapter in his ongoing love-affair with British music, and joins Ian Bostridge to explore the dappled shade and brilliant light of Britten鈥檚 enchanted Serenade. No living singer understands this music better than Bostridge.
