Concert Information
Bartók whisks us off on a European adventure this afternoon in a live Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3 broadcast with Simone Young.
His native Hungary is the first destination with Bartók’s Hungarian Peasant Songs – before we journey onward with his Romanian Folk Dances, based on seven miniatures from Transylvania.
A world premiere next from Camden Reeves, Professor of Music at The University of Manchester, with Light Speed with Time Canons, composed in celebration of the centenary of the experimental proof of Albert Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity.
Closing this afternoon we hear Prokofiev’s Four Portraits and Denouement from ‘The Gambler’, an orchestral suite taken from his action-packed opera based on a novel by Dostoevsky, who understood the lure of the gaming tables only too well, being a gambling addict himself!
