Concert Information
John Wilson, the leading champion for the music of Coates, conducts this afternoon’s live Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3 broadcast – dedicated to a composer renowned for his light, orchestral approach.
We hear The Selfish Giant – one of three Phantasies Coates composed along with The Three Bears and Cinderella, originally inspired and spurred on by the children’s stories that his wife read to their children.
After the surprisingly quick-footed Wood Nymphs, we move to the infectious serenade, For Your Delight – which the composer dedicated to his friend Burt Godsmark and described as: ‘very light, nothing to be afraid of!’
Alongside Coates’s ballet, The Enchanted Garden, this afternoon’s live broadcast also includes his London Bridge March and the dreamily atmospheric valse romance, Lazy Night.
