About This Event

‘I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart.’ Palestrina’s joyous Passiontide motet provides the starting point for the Proms’s first ever visit to Southwark Cathedral in a programme that sets faith against doubt and 16th-century Italian polyphony against a world premiere by British composer and Master of the Queen’s Music Judith Weir.

Palestrina’s radiant Mass glows with spiritual certainty, whether in its dancing Hosanna or long-limbed Sanctus. The Â鶹ԼÅÄ Singers are joined by the Nash Ensemble and tenor Adrian Thompson for Weir’s In the Land of Uz, which takes inspiration from the story of Job, whose faith in God is shaken repeatedly through suffering and disaster.
