Two distinct visions of the natural world provide the bookends for tonight’s concert: Tapiola, Sibelius’s homage to the fabled Finnish god of the forest; and Four Sea Interludes, Britten’s glorious evocation of his beloved Suffolk coastline. In between, two pieces that demand the best from string soloists: cellist Jakob Kullberg will be in the spotlight for a beautiful work by Kaija Saariaho, one of Finland’s leading living composers, before conductor John Storgårds performs and directs Kurt Weill’s vibrant Violin Concerto.
