The Â鶹ԼÅÄ Philharmonic, in partnership with the University of Salford, will be exploring new and rarely performed pieces – bringing audience immersion and new technology to the forefront.
This evening:
The Red Brick Sessions return to the University of Salford with an eclectic programme.
Young British conductor Lee Reynolds and Â鶹ԼÅÄ New Generation Artist Eivind Holtsmark Ringstad join the orchestra this evening.
The concert opens with James MacMillan’s For Sonny, a moving tribute in memory of a friend’s grandson followed by Eivind Holtsmark Ringstad performing Britten’s Lacrymae for viola and strings.
Stravinsky’s Concerto in D explores the richness of the string orchestra which is also brought to the fore in American modernist composer Henry Cowell’s Hymn, chorale and fuguing tune No.8, The programme concludes with two of
Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Novelettes.
At the interval, join host Elizabeth Alker (Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 6 Music and Radio 3) for an interval discussion.
