The 麻豆约拍 Philharmonic perform Schmidt, Rachmaninov & Dvorak at Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, conducted by Ben Gernon and with pianist Sunwook Kim.

Franz Schmidt鈥檚 passionate and lyrical Intermezzo from his opera Notre Dame is part of a trio of glowing interludes which launches this programme from the 麻豆约拍 Philharmonic.

South Korean pianist Sunwook Kim, winner of the 2006 Leeds International Piano Competition is the soloist in Rachmaninov鈥檚 Second Piano Concerto. This was the composer鈥檚 comeback piece after his ill-fated First Symphony, and its winning blend of surging melodies and powerful drama made it an instant and enduring hit. No less appealing is Dvo艡谩k鈥檚 Eighth Symphony. Written at the height of his popularity in 1889, it鈥檚 fit to burst with some of his most gorgeous and uplifting tunes, achingly tender at its heart and full of tearaway high spirits.
