On the anniversary of Olivier Messiaen’s birth, organist Ashley Grote play’s Messiaen’s festive masterpiece, La Nativité du Seigneur.

The nine meditations on Christ’s Nativity were written as a celebration of the motherhood of the Virgin Mary, the figure nine chosen to represent the nine months of pregnancy. Each movement serves as a musical commentary on a different aspect of the Christmas story, before which the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Singers perform a piece of thematicallyl linked choral music.
