For the second concert in our piano series, we welcome Nikolai Demidenko for Tchaikovsky鈥檚 thrillingly romantic first piano concerto. Little did Tchaikovsky know, when composing its recognisable opening chords, that he鈥檇 created a work that would become the first classical song to sell a million records.

Shostakovich鈥檚 tenth symphony is considered by most to be a depiction of Stalin鈥檚 rule of Russia. It is testament to the composer鈥檚 legacy of music that chronicles one of the most turbulent reigns in recent history, inspiring in its ability to find optimism in the bleakest of situations.

We鈥檙e sorry to announce that due to illness Igor Levit is not able to perform with us for this concert, we are delighted that Nikolai Demidenko will replace Igor to play Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No 1.
