Programme

Tchaikovsky & Shostakovich

For the second concert in our piano series, we welcome Nikolai Demidenko for Tchaikovsky’s thrillingly romantic first piano concerto. Little did Tchaikovsky know, when composing its recognisable opening chords, that he’d created a work that would become the first classical song to sell a million records.

Shostakovich’s tenth symphony is considered by most to be a depiction of Stalin’s rule of Russia. It is testament to the composer’s legacy of music that chronicles one of the most turbulent reigns in recent history, inspiring in its ability to find optimism in the bleakest of situations.

We’re sorry to announce that due to illness Igor Levit is not able to perform with us for this concert, we are delighted that Nikolai Demidenko will replace Igor to play Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No 1.
