Sir Andrew Davis conducts L’enfance du Christ
Despite his strict catholic upbringing Berlioz was not a religious man, yet he was constantly inspired by the religious music that enthralled him as a child; and his most important and substantial works, including his Requiem, Te Deum and the oratorio L’enfance du Christ, are firmly rooted in the sacred music genre.
In commemoration of 150 years since Berlioz’s death, we welcome Sir Andrew Davis to Â鶹ԼÅÄ Hoddinott Hall for the first time to conduct Berlioz’s supremely beautiful L’enfance du Christ, which, with words written by the composer himself, tells the story of Jesus’s childhood and the Holy Family’s flight into Egypt.
