Dame Cleo Laine celebrates her 90th birthday at the historic Town Hall in Birmingham, in the company of a stellar cast of friends old and new, together with the seventy musicians of the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Concert Orchestra and the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Big Band, conducted by one of the biggest names in British jazz, Guy Barker.
Among the guest artists, Clare Teal, Kandace Springs, Jacqui Dankworth, Alec Dankworth and Charlie Wood. The concert features music from across Dame Cleo’s career, including her work with her husband John Dankworth and albums with James Galway, Dudley Moore, and Ray Charles. Dame Cleo has enjoyed hits in every area of the music business; hit records like, ‘If’ and ‘Send in the Clowns’; musical theatre triumphs including ‘Porgy and Bess’ and ‘Showboat’; television specials; and of course countless concerts and record releases. A champion of ‘all music’ at their theatre in Wavendon John and Cleo made a unique contribution to British jazz encouraging young talents and welcoming established artists which continues today. With Dame Cleo performing herself and the best of British jazz musicians on stage, this will be a night to remember! A chance for all to say ‘Happy Birthday’’ and ‘Carry on Cleo!’
