Programme

Performers

Handel, Bach, Vivaldi and Biber

Violinist Rachel Podger leads the orchestra on a journey through some of her favourite works from the mid 1600s and early 1700s in this historically informed performance. Ranging from Biber’s Battalia, dedicated to Bacchus, the god of wine, vegetation and theatre in which the notion of absurdity is instantly suggested; to J. S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, written while Kapellmeister at Köthen and dedicated to the Margrave of Brandenburg.

This programme guarantees to take you on an emotional journey from wartime to celebration, sorrow to sheer joy.
