Written for his dear friend Ferdinand David, Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto oozes charm and elegance. Brimming with lyricism and structural inventiveness, it is little wonder that this concerto has firmly established itself as one of the most popular and best loved of all concertos. To perform we’re delighted to welcome rising star and multi award winner, Ellinor D’Melon.
In a nod to his 200th birthday year Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony takes centre stage in the second half of this concert, conducted by our Principal Guest Conductor, Jaime MartÃn. Spectacular horn solos soar against shimmering strings, funeral marches weave with German chorales and the drive of hunting music leans into gentle trios reminiscent of Haydn or Beethoven in this colourful symphony.
