Concert Information
Clemens Schuldt conducts today’s live broadcast for Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3 with music from Prokofiev, Jolivet, Shostakovich and Haydn.
Prokofiev's bright and joyous ‘Classical’ Symphony draws inspiration from the style of Haydn and was premiered in 1918 with Prokofiev himself conducting.
Shostakovich’s heroic, playful and spirited Concerto for Piano, Trumpet and Strings is performed today by 29 year old Italian pianist Federico Colli – but for its debut in 1933, Shostakovich took to the piano for the solo. Colli is joined by Â鶹ԼÅÄ New Generation Artist, Simon Höfele. Höfele is also the soloist for Jolivet’s Trumpet Concertino – a piece with building energy, lively rhythms and more than a hint of jazz.
The programme comes full circle to end with one of Haydn’s ‘Paris’ Symphonies, No. 86 – festive and intense from first note to last.
