Concert Information

This afternoon marks the first instalment of October’s MediaCityUK performances, with Scottish conductor Douglas Boyd leading orchestra in a live broadcast for Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3.

Opening with a piece from fellow Scot - composer James MacMillan, í (A Meditation on Iona) takes its inspiration from the tiny island off the southwest coast of Mull, in the Inner Hebrides.

Britten’s Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge was composed over one month in the summer of 1937 – a commission from the Boyd Neel Orchestra for the Salzburg Festival. This is widely considered to be the work that brought Britten to international attention.

Closing this afternoon’s programme is Haydn’s effervescent Symphony No.104. Haydn composed this piece, his final symphony, as his farewell to London.

This concert is a live broadcast for Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3.
