This evening:
Matthew Barley is the soloist in this all-Austrian programme, opening with Thomas Larcher’s compelling 2015 cello concerto Ourobouros.
Mozart’s stormy Symphony No. 25 in G Minor follows, written by the then 17-year-old in October 1773. With its wide-leap melodic lines and syncopation, this dramatic early symphony is characteristic of the Sturm und Drang style.
