About This Event
As part of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 2, the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Concert Orchestra and soprano Carly Paoli present an evening of music most royal.
From Elizabeth I, played by Bette Davis in Hollywood’s The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, to Elizabeth II played by Claire Foy, Olivia Colman and Imelda Staunton in TV’s The Crown, monarchs on screen have long been accompanied by majestic music.
Come and enjoy a concert of splendid tunes, lush ballads and classical repertoire that conjure monarchs’ worlds, including music from King’s Rhapsody, Camelot, The Queen, Shakespeare in Love and The King & I. Beethoven and Puccini appear via their music that captured royal moments in The King’s Speech and Grace of Monaco.
And no concert of royal music would be complete without Walton’s glorious Crown Imperial, the march written for George’s VI’s coronation and later performed at Elizabeth II’s, the first televised coronation.
Conducted by Steven Bell, join us at the Southbank Centre’s appropriately named Queen Elizabeth Hall, for music from the big and small screen with a distinctly royal flavour.
