Concert Information
‘Epic’ is a hugely overused word – but, in musical terms, Mahler’s Third Symphony is the dictionary definition. Described by the composer as ‘one great hymn to the glory of every aspect of creation’, it’s as immense and impressive as the natural world that inspired it - a colossal work that tore up the rulebook and rewrote it for a new century. Juanjo Mena will be joined by a vast ensemble of musicians and singers as he begins his final season as the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Philharmonic’s Chief Conductor.
This concert forms part of a series of events during the autumn of 2017 to mark the 21st birthday of The Bridgewater Hall, which first opened its doors on 11 September 1996. The venue’s resident ensembles, its many external promoters and the management of the Hall itself have come together to celebrate a successful partnership which has brought world-class music of many kinds to Manchester and the Northwest for over two decades.
