Concert Information
Initially written as a piano work, Ravel’s 'Mother Goose', is a musical depiction of famous fairy tales ('Beauty and the Beast', 'Sleeping Beauty' and more) which shimmers with orchestral magic. And two of his pupils bring some of that enchantment to their own works: there’s an Impressionistic touch to Vaughan Williams’s setting of poems by A.E. Housman, sung here by the ‘glorious’ (The Independent) Benjamin Hulett; while Lennox Berkeley’s 'Serenade' has grace and lightness of touch. And to open, a burst of George Enescu who studied under Fauré with - who else? – Maurice Ravel. John Wilson conducts. The concert will be visualised and broadcast live on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3, presented by Kate Molleson.
