About this event

The Â鶹ԼÅÄ Singers are joined by the Britten Sinfonia and former Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3 New Generation Artist Natalie Clein in a programme that opens with the music of an individualistic master who first worked with the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Singers in 1944.

Sir John Tavener's Popule meus meditates upon the rejection of God by modern man, with the solo cello steadfast against the temptations of the secular world as hurled out by the timpani.

In her 80th-birthday year, Sofia Gubaidulina is represented by the atmospheric The Canticle of the Sun, a setting of St Francis of Assisi in which the silences can seem as important as the notes.
