Myung-Whun Chung directs the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, making its Proms debut this year. Unsuk Chin鈥檚 sheng concerto evokes the sounds of South Korea and is an extended sonic game between soloist and orchestra. Framing this is the sensuous richness of Debussy鈥檚 La mer and Tchaikovsky鈥檚 final symphony, with its elusive and emotional narrative.

About this event

Myung-Whun Chung makes his first Proms appearance this summer as Music Director of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, which makes its own Proms debut as one of our series of global orchestras.

They bring with them the sounds of South Korea in a concerto for sheng (traditional reed mouth organ) and orchestra written by their compatriot Unsuk Chin 鈥� a sonic game between soloist and orchestra.

Chin鈥檚 evocative textures are framed by the sensuous richness of Debussy鈥檚 La mer, capturing the sea in all its moods, and Tchaikovsky鈥檚 final symphony, with its elusive but turbulent narrative.
