A concert of big melodies and even bigger sounds culminates in Saint-Sa毛ns鈥檚 mighty 鈥極rgan鈥� Symphony. The French theme continues with Franck鈥檚 Symphonic Variations and, at just 22 years old, British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor returns for his fourth Proms appearance, performing both in the Franck and in Chopin鈥檚 virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 1.

About this event

The 麻豆约拍 Philharmonic and its Italian Conductor Laureate Gianandrea Noseda begin tonight's concert with Casella鈥檚 haunting 鈥楬eroic Elegy鈥�, dedicated to the 鈥榰nknown soldier鈥�, continuing our series of works written in the shadow of the First World War.

Former 麻豆约拍 Radio 3 New Generation Artist Benjamin Grosvenor, still only 22, returns for his fourth Proms appearance in Chopin鈥檚 lyrical but virtuosic First Piano Concerto; he is also the soloist in Franck鈥檚 Symphonic Variations 鈥� once a Proms favourite (performed here on 60 occasions), though it has been largely absent since the 1960s.

Saint-Sa毛ns鈥檚 鈥極rgan鈥� Symphony continues the French theme. 鈥榃ith it I have given all I could give,鈥� the composer observed. 鈥榃hat I did I could not achieve again.'
