Grace Williams takes tradition Welsh improvisatory song and reimagines it for Orchestra in her glisteningly meditative work Penillion. Also taking inspiration from his native folk music is Bartók, whose vibrantly thrilling Romanian Dances features folk tunes from Eastern Europe.

Possibly one of the most famous works in classical music, Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending is a sublime evocation of lark song and flight. To perform this exquisite work we’re delighted to be joined by the eminent Madeleine Mitchell.

Rich in invention and charm, Carl Nielsen’s Sixth Symphony rounds off the concert, conducted by Jamie Phillips.
