Zoology

Douglas made an unexpected cameo appearance during zoologist Richard Dawkins' 1992 Royal Institution Christmas Lectures.

"...there was one fan letter I once had, I was enormously proud to receive, which was from Richard Dawkins who has subsequently become a good friend and is someone whose thinking I enormously admire. " From

Zoology was one of Douglas Adams' many interests. He made a series and wrote a book Last Chance to See... about his travels around the world in search of animals on the edge of extinction.

He also contributed to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ2's , discussing a lemur called the Aye-Aye.

"...When you see it is like a sort of assemblage of other sorts of animals. It has sort of ears like a fox, it has little bitey rabbit's teeth, it has eyes like a bat's, rather like Marty Feldman's eyes looking in different directions, and then it's got a tail like a giant ostrich feather. But the strangest thing is its very very thin, skeletally thin middle finger that it uses for burrowing under the bark of trees for grubs."
