What Was Lost Part 1: Sacrifice

Trivia

Commanding tones: The "previously on Farscape" voice-over on the teaser is in the plummy tones of Rygel, voiced by classically trained actor Jonathan Hardy.

Moving up the ranks: Everyone's favourite Peacekeeper toady Braca has had a promotion. He's now a Captain, thanks to his willingness to swap loyalties whenever a new power figure comes along.

Commandant cleavage: So, Grayza's charms aren't limited to what you can see, substantial as that is.

She also has the ability to turn men into her willing slaves, through some substance contained in her sweat. Maybe that's how she's risen to such high authority amongst the Peacekeepers, despite not being a Sebacean.

She's the cat's mother: The strange old lady from the end of season three is back, variously called Wrinkles, Granny, and simply "the strange old lady". We also know she's two hundred and ninety-three cycles old, and never bathes because it "washes off the juice." Ewww.

Closer family: The dig on Arnessk is run by Interions, the same species as Jool. This is a surprise, as when she first came on to Moya the impression was given that her home planet and race were too far away for her to rejoin. Otherwise, as she hated Moya and all aboard so much, why did she stay?

I spy with my little eye. The human symbol on the child's tile John finds is an Eye of Horus - an Egyptian symbol often worn as an amulet to protect against evil.

The John Crichton guide to pop culture.

Monster shock: John describes Oo-nii as, "The creature from the Black Lagoon, sorta." A 1954 horror flick, The Creature from the Black Lagoon was about an expedition to the Amazon which discovers a vicious humanoid fish-creature, called a Gill-Man. It strangely failed make the Oscars.

Videogame girl: "What is Lara Croft doing in the wall?" John asks when Vella meets her end. Poster girl for the PlayStation generation, Lara Croft is the heroine of the Tomb Raider series of games. She's also made it onto the big screen, with Angelina Jolie donning Lara's trademark shorts and pistol holsters.

Thorough examination: "My choppers are first class, and I do an excellent turn my head and cough," says John to the very rude Vella. Any male will recognise this as a description of a standard medical check-up.
