Episode Guide
A Prefect Murder

Your Reviews

Here's what you thought of A Prefect Murder - our pick of the top three reviews from the many we received.

See the Farscape fan reviewer Roll of Honour.

Stephen Brennan
After a couple of very fast paced episodes, Farscape slows down with this slightly unfulfilling yet still well-crafted episode.

The multiple viewpoints of every incident were cleverly worked out, but following Aeryn's realisation that she actually had shot Gashaak, the episode seemed to lose this unique narrative.

There also seemed to be a heavy reliance on slow motion which, while being effective in the odd gun battle, does become boring when used five times in as many minutes.

However, credit to the writers in managing to impeccably create a believable society in a few scenes, where the motivations of all the characters were clear. Particularly good were the Gormenghast-esque Prefect and the Rygel-esque priest. It was also nice to see Sikozu finally being developed as a character.

The only fault was that the whodunnit storyline was far too obvious and simple to hold any great amount of tension.

So, A Prefect Murder, while by no means being a superb episode, was none the less a nice, well-polished piece.

Frelling dren!

This episode was too confusing and disjointed. A story should have three basic elements: the introduction, development, and resolution of a plot. Any aspects that don't serve one of these purposes are merely distractions or sidebars, and this episode had way too many of those.

For example, the child served no purpose in the overall picture of the story. And the repetition of scenes from different camera angles seemed to me just filler to stretch the episode out. Too much of the story had nothing to do with the plot.

The story was one that’s been played out in too many renditions. Crichton's overuse of "Crichtonisms" further established my belief that the new batch of writers really don't get what Farscape is all about.

This episode is completely unworthy of the universe of Farscape.

With its disjointed cuts, this episode takes some getting used to, but then you realise you are seeing the same segment of time from different angles, leading to the marketplace shootout.

There are many good touches, from the dramatic situation of the clans to the fact that Chiana isn't the only one consorting with the natives. The tense stand-off at the end worked well, but I can't help feeling the villain with the beehive hairdo needed more bite.

The big window was a huge clue to the ending, but congratulations on a solid plot with good characters, like the two-faced white-haired Prefect. Oh, and Crichton, don't ever try to do a Scottish accent again…
