Trivia

RILEY, YOU BIG LUG

A small shrine to the dumbest man on TV. This week:

Actually rather a sweet moment for the big lug this week as he realises that Buffy may be his girlfriend - but she doesn't really love him.

But how could a girl resist a man that gives such good neck rubs?

He's also a fast mover, wasting no time in getting Buffy into the bedroom of Xander's apartment.

Kill us both Spock: Evil twins are a staple of science fiction. Buffy has already explored the idea with Season Three's evil Willow, but a chance to make use of Nicholas Brendon's real life twin Kelly was too good an opportunity to pass up.

The "Kill us both Spock" line at the end of the episode paraphrases a line in the classic Star Trek episode Whom the Gods Destroy. Steve Inhat plays the insane, shape-shifting Captain Garth who, at the climax of the story, takes on the form of Captain Kirk. When Spock fails to determine the difference between the two Kirks standing before him, the real Captain Kirk actually says, "Shoot us both, Spock!"

Snoopy Loopy: Xander convinces Willow he is the genuine article by performing the Snoopy dance - some scary jumping and pawing first mentioned in season two's Passion.

Nick Brendon was a little unfamiliar with the cartoon canine's moves but managed to improvise something suitably memorable in his trailer just before the scene. It's now become a much-requested party piece when Nick attends conventions.

Living Doll: Take note of the mannequin Spike rescues from the Sunnydale rubbish tip. As well as being a makeshift punching bag for the frustrated vamp, it's also a hint at events later in the season.

Oops!: Spike has a visible tan line on his arms in some shots. How did he manage that then?

What's in a name?: Nicholas Brendon's twin brother Kelly goes by the last name Donovan. The actors' real surname is actually Schultz but they both use their middle names as surnames when working.

In the money: Xander must be making some serious money in construction - that's a pretty impressive apartment he can afford.
