Review by Amy Elias, website team.

The Belgrade Theatre provided the perfect intimate venue for Harry Hill on Friday, 7 March.

Having not seen much Harry Hill on TV, but enjoying what I had seen, I didn't know what to expect from his live performance.

The Belgrade Theatre provided the perfect for comedian Harry Hill
Harry Hill far exceeded any expectations I might have had with his strange off-the-wall comedy.

He succeeded in building a number of sketches simultaneously, working quickly and bringing each joke to a crescendo throughout his performance.

At times it was hard to keep up with the simultaneous sketches, as he was always one step ahead of the audience, challenging them with his comic wit.

The show was in two parts, the first half being fast-paced with layers of jokes and the second half being more like a comedy musical.

The music was provided by his band - the Harrys - who wore the trademark collars and white swiming caps on their heads mimicking Harry's lack of hair!

The lovely looking Harry Hill
One of the best parts of the show for me was his cheap alternative to the coffin, a story about burying his nan in the fridge!

"It makes sense" he said, "as there's always a fridge left over when someone dies, and it saves money, trees and she can be lit up if you have an open coffin!"

Harry Hill not only had very funny material, but his mere presence made me laugh throughout the show.

He initially came on to the stage wearing his hat and in the second part he wore a very dashing pink 70s elvis style costume.

Other funny stints involved his ventriloquist son and Stouffer the puppet cat in a chair (say no more!) and split character impressions.

After the show, we nipped round the back of the stage door and got Harry to sign some posters. He was genuinely a really nice man and wrote a special message for me. I was star struck!

If you get a chance to go and see him on his Wild Horses Tour, then go.

Locally he'll be on in Birmingham and Derby, but he's worth travelling further afield for.
